Oh, how I love 10k’s! Such a great distance. For this race, I looking forward to wearing what would become my favorite running costume. (So much so that I’m reusing it for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in May.) I’ve always loved Donald’s colors and this outfit was super easy to put together, thanks to some help from my husband who made sure my yellow ribbon and buttons were perfectly level.
Now, picking up where I left off in my WDW 5k recap, we went to bed early with our race gear laid out and multiple alarms set! Soon, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald were out the door and headed to the bus stop.
The predicted rain started coming down on the way to Epcot, making me thankful for my visor and the headband Ginny had loaned me. I was also thankful that it had rained for the 10k and not the half or full!
We left in plenty of time to do some dancing, meet up with friends, and we were even interviewed by John Pelkey, our favorite runDisney announcer! Too bad I turned into a stammering bundle of nerves when he put the mike to my face.
For the record, this was my seventh runDisney weekend, not race! Duh.
Afterwards, we checked in our gEar bags and headed to our corrals, with Ginny and me in corral B. We got there in plenty of time to head near the front without all that obnoxious weaving and scooting.
The rain started to come down harder at this point, so I poncho’d back up and we huddled together until it was time to go! One mistake I made was forgetting to take a Gu fifteen minutes before start time and eating only a granola bar for breakfast. This error would take its toll on me later that night!
But for now, it was time to…
I’m going to let our pictures take over for a while:
After saying goodbye to Phineas and Ferb, we ran past Spaceship Earth and headed toward the finishing line, completing our second race of the Dopey Challenge!
After being rained on for hours, Ginny and I left after our beers, grabbed some showers, and went with Megan back to Animal Kingdom to use our Fastpasses and see some shows. This was Ginny’s first time at Disney without her family so we made sure to concentrate on doing things she hasn’t seen yet, like Festival of the Lion King!
As for me, I was feeling really great at this point. Tired from lack of sleep and started to get concerned that I wasn’t eating enough, but ready to run the half on Saturday!
That recap is coming up next. Until then, here’s a video recap I made for our new Joyful Miles YouTube Channel if you’d like to check it out!
