2016 WDW 10k Race Recap – Dopey Challenge Day 2

So, today we are on Day 2 of the Dopey Challenge, the runDisney WDW 10k!

I love 10k runs. They are my ideal distance so I was really looking forward to this. After finding out that my friend, Robert’s wife Lauren would be running and it would be her first Disney run, I asked if she’d like to join with me. I was a little worried because I had planned on walking a good portion to save myself for the half and full but Lauren said she was ok with that. I was so grateful!

A group of us girls decided to dress up as Mickey , Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Daisy. Loved our themed running gear. Here we are on the bus heading to the race bright and early, at around 3:00am.

When we got to the race and met up with Lauren, it began to rain a bit. Just a misting rain, but we all made the most of it and had a blast dancing to the DJ beforehand. I think the atmospher pre-race it’s so exciting and fun. I really enjoy getting there early and feeling the party atmosphere!

One awesome moment was when the Run Disney announcer, John Pelky, came over and interviewed all of us. What a fantastic memory!!! Have a look:

After that, we split up and headed to corrals. Because the 10k is a smaller race we were on corral E. I was excited because I thought this meant I’d start sooner. For the half and full, I was J but the time between corrals was much longer this time, and the rain began to really start coming down. We ended up waiting to start for almost an hour. If I didn’t have such good company, it would’ve been much worse! Lauren and I huddled up trying to stay dry and warm, just chatting getting to know each other.

I was still getting over a cold and Lauren was planning to do the kids race with her son, so we both agreed to skip character stops unless lines were less than 15 people. (That never happened). We did try and get stops at the mile markers. It was pouring first couple miles. I was just so thankful it wasn’t like this for the full!

I love when doing Disney races you get to see parts of the parks you don’t typically see. I love this back entrance to Epcot we ran through.

2016 runDisney WDW 10kWe made our way through the Beach Club, and ran past one of my favorite Disney places, The Atlantic Dancehall!

2016 runDisney WDW 10kThe rain had begun to subside but this point and we just walk/ran into the World Showcase. I have to say watching the sunrise whole running through Epcot is breathtaking. These are the moments that make the runs so with the money.

2016 runDisney WDW 10kWe made our way through World Showcase making our way toward Spaceship Earth. We were almost done!

2016 runDisney WDW 10k And here we are at our final marker!

2016 runDisney WDW 10kThe rain had stopped and we were nearing the finish line. I was feeling good and so excited for Lauren to be completing her first Disney run! We crossed the finish line and got our gorgeous medals. Race number 2? Check!
