2018 Baltimore 10-Miler Race Recaps

“Bad workouts and races — we all have them and we always will.” -Greg McMillan

Yep. That’s some serious truth. And for me, the 2018 Baltimore 10-Miler was a bad, bad race due to the heat, humidity, and one whopping case of nausea!

Things started out good enough. I had been keeping up with my training plan as well as lots of cross training with another round of 80 Day Obsession Phase 1. Leaving my race belt and other essentials at the beach house was a bummer, but it was all good, I managed to scrounge up enough to get my by plus my worries about leaving my house too late were for nothing, seeing as how I scored a great parking spot.

But when those three guys who were doused with cologne lined up near me at the starting line? Oh boy. Game over. All downhill from there.

The smell of perfume or cologne early in the morning makes me SERIOUSLY ill, so I started to get a bad feeling about the race. Add in the fact that it was SERIOUSLY hot and humid, plus my track record for the Baltimore 10-Miler has not been great to begin with.

I was able to push aside my nauseous and worries for the first two miles, however, making me think I’d be able to stick with my PR plans after all. But after two miles?

No, no, no, not today.

Nauseous hit me full force and I knew, I just knew, that nope, PR was NOT happening so I might as well slow down, take it easy, and enjoy the sights of Baltimore. So while this race did not turn out as I had hoped, I still had a great time and was able to film a lot of the course! And seeing as how the Baltimore Running Festival, (and final leg of the King Crab Challenge,) is the weekend, I finally sat down long enough to put all that footage together for a video recap.

Jackey and I also chat about the Baltimore 10-Miler in Podcast Episode 57:

Next up, the Baltimore Half Marathon! I had initially registered for the full marathon, but thankfully, I downgraded due to runner burnout plus I had also signed up for the WDW Full Marathon in January. Back in 2015/2016, I was able to handle the amount of training that would take, but this year?

No, no, no, not today. 😉

Thanks for reading and if you’re going to be running the Baltimore Running Festival, best of luck! I’m personally looking forward to getting that big whopping King Crab Challenge medal. Take care and happy running!

I feel better knowing we have bad races and it’s ok. As I am just getting back into running, I feel motivated when I hear other stories. Thank you for that! Looking forward to the meet up @Epcot, my first Run Disney & first 10k!
