Random Chitchats

Some things about us.

Yesterday kicked off runDisney’s Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side weekend, so my feed has been blowing up with pictures of friends and runners buying awesome things at the expo, drinking from cool beer cups, wearing fantastic race costumes, and having a total blast.

But I’m not jealous or anything.

And who needs to run a 5k with fireworks, character stops, and adorably-cute medallions when you’ve got a trusty treadmill for your early morning run, right???

So yeah, not jealous.

Well, maybe a little.

Okay, A LOT, I mean, have you seen the medals????

The Kessel Run is officially now on my runDisney bucket list.

But for today, we’re thinking this might be a good time to follow up Wednesday’s post with some introductions about us. That way, these awkward first posts will be out of the way and we can get to the good stuff on Monday morning. (Like why we think you should do the Dopey Challenge.) Let start with…

Jackey Deschamps

Jackey Balzer DeschampsHello, everyone! I’m a 39 (omg almost 40) year old mom of three boys from Buffalo, NY.  I love anything 80’s and believe I was born ten years later than my soul.  I love to sing, dance and make music videos.  I’m a huge Buffalo Bills fan!  After being a stay at home mom for 10 years, I’ve recently re-entered the work force as a customer service agent for Southwest Airlines.  Which is perfect for my love of traveling (free flights) and traveling to run races.

I will say I’m not a competitive runner. I find the thrill in crossing the finish line and just love the entire experience of running the race and making it as fun as possible.  I’ve written about some previous race experiences in my Run For Laughs blog. I look forward to sharing more experience as we take on this new exciting endeavor!

Running has become my stress relief, something that provides goals other than the daily crazy and my role of being my children’s Uber.  I am your classic ‘social’ runner – THAT person who talks during the entire run. Imagine how fast I could be if I just shut my mouth and ran? (Well not really.) I also love being a ‘support runner’ for someone’s first race since time isn’t as important to me as the experience with friends. Heck, it was watching all the fun via the internet and meeting Laura at Princess Half Weekend 2015 that convinced me (didn’t take much) to sign up for the DOPEY Challenge in 2016!

I am so excited to be able to share my perspectives on combining that crazy work life with running and all types of exercise especially my stress relief via running.

Laura Bowers

IMG_9859Hello again! I’m a 47-year old writer, runner, reader, runDisney addict, (just ask my credit card,) mom to two college boys, administrative assistant, web designer, obsessive list-keeper, and someone who thinks Scrubs was the best TV show ever. I also think the best way to eat a Three Musketeers bar is to nibble off the chocolate and throw away the nougat. Don’t ask why. My husband of 23 years has long since given up that battle.

Besides Joyful Miles, I blog at As The Eraser Burns and at my author site, Write, Run, Rejoice. So far, I’ve had two books published and I’m currently working hard to reinvent my writing career and sell a third. #gottahavefaith

Oh, and I also love making video recaps, like this one I just posted on our YouTube Channel for 2016’s WDW Marathon. Gotta say. Watching this makes me ready for Marathon Weekend signs up starting next week, which will be Monday’s topic!

(My favorite part starts at 11:32.)

Have a joyful day!

Laura Bowers

Laura is a writer, runner, reader, runDisney addict, blogger, vlogger, wife to an amazing guy for 26 years, mom of two wonderful boys, excellent chili maker, and obsessive list keeper. She still thinks Spice World was an awesome movie and feels no shame about that plus she can quote most lines from Talladega Nights. Shake and bake!
