Happy Sunday evening, lovelies, I hope you had an AMAZING Thanksgiving!
Ours was fantastic and I have so much to be thankful for! My wonderful husband and two boys, family and friends who love me unconditionally, my home, my health, the many places I’ve traveled to this year … including Paris, the miles I’ve run, the laughs I’ve had, for turning a fabulous 50-years-old this year, and for YOU!!!
I’m also thankful for getting a grip on my mental health and gaining clarity on the direction I want to go for my next 50 years! In order to do so, I had to take a step back from social media and Joyful Miles work for the past few months … my apologies, I just needed to catch my breath and focus on myself for a while.

Weekly Workout Recap
Some bummer news: Running for me has been out since November 17th due to pain at the ball of my left foot. I haven’t had my MRI yet so I don’t know if it’s another plantar plate injury. (Praying it’s not!) But X-Rays do show a heel spur of all things which is a total shocker because I haven’t had any pain in my heel or arch!
I’ll do an update once I have more details, but in the meanwhile, I refuse to be depressed over this. I simply refuse. I’ve come way too far this year with my mental health this year to backslide now!
My hope is that the pain is due to stiff calf muscles. I really tightened up after running the Marine Corps Marathon and my self-care went down the toilet while helping Bob recover from his November 4th hip replacement and my son was home due to illness. So for the past couple of weeks, my goal has been to maintain conditioning and improve flexibility by doing non-weight bearing strength training, easy cycling on my stationary bike plus tons of stretching and foam rolling.

For strength training, I’m following an extremely modified 80 Day Obsession. Even with the modifications, my body feels stronger after two weeks!
Monday, November 25th
Kicking things off with 80 Day Obsession Day 8: Total Body Core with modifications to keep most of my weight off my sore foot! Then 45 minutes of cycling while wearing a carbon graphite insert to keep pressure more evenly distributed and the pedal at my arch instead of balls of my feet.
Have I mentioned we’re in desperate need of a new stationary bike since my 25-year-old one recently kicked the bucket? Poor thing. It’s been through so much…
Then stretching, foam rolling, and muscle tension work with The Stick, my Addaday Roller, and a few curses. (Well, maybe more than a few.)
Tuesday, November 26th
80 Day Obsession Day 9: Booty with few modifications since most of the work in done on the floor with resistance loops! I absolutely LOVE this workout! If I end up having to walk the 2020 WDW Marathon, I at least plan on looking good from behind. 😉

Wednesday, November 27th
Does hauling my rear to five different stores while wearing a boot as a precaution count? I’m saying yes. Later on, we had a lovely time hanging out with both my boys, Broc and Cooper, as well as Cooper’s fiance, Kimberly! Bring on the overeating holiday season, I’m so ready.
Thursday, November 28th
No turkey trots for this gal, but I did 80 Day Obsession Day 11: AAA, (Arms, Abs, and A**,) with modified floor and ab work since using the sliders in plank position puts too much pressure on the balls of my feet.
Then 45 minutes on the bike to replace 80 Day Obsession Day 10: Cardio Core and 30 minutes of stretching, foam rolling, and muscle tension work. No cursing this time, though, since I went easier on myself.
Friday, November 29th
Rest day and thirty minutes of stretching, foam rolling, and muscle tension work. Also, more overeating at the soft opening of our friend’s new restaurant, Sergio’s! Bummed that I didn’t get a picture of the five of us, but I do have this pretty picture of Kimberly and me.
Saturday, November 30th
Another rest day since I spent most of the morning chatting with Cooper and Kimberly until meeting friends at Sergio’s second soft opening. I did manage to sneak in about twenty minutes of stretching and foam rolling, but once again, no group photo, just a ton of snaps!
Sunday, December 1st
Double-dipping day … for 80DO Day 12: Legs, I did this lower body Pilates workout that’s completely on the floor and pretty awesome when you add in heavy resistance loops.
For 80DO Day 13: Cardio Flow, I cycled for 45 minutes while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie! Oh so sappy, but I oh-so love them. I still don’t love foam rolling and muscle tension work, but I still did that after stretching.
After really focusing on stretching and rolling this past week … wow, it’s become even more clear how badly I need it daily instead of every now and then.
Also, while I love everything there is about being fifty … my flexibility has really gone to crap. My issue is that I’m so darn inpatient … after doing a workout, I want to get to my day as soon as possible, so I haven’t always taken the time to stretch out thoroughly. I still haven’t noticed any improvements yet, but a quick “how long does it take to get flexible” Google search tells me 2 to 3 months.
So I guess I must be patient.
As for my foot, it does feel a little better but it’s too soon to tell, so I’m just leaving it at that for now.
