runDisney Registrations … aka, I’m Broke!

runDisney registration season has hit me hard, folks! First Jackey and I signed up for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon: Two Course Challenge back in June.

Then a few weeks ago, we  both registered for the WDW Full Marathon … which reminds me. I added another tip to my runDisney budgeting post:

Sign up for a single race rather than a challenge and/or the 5k! We saved a lot of money by sticking with the full marathon rather than the Goofy or Dopey challenge. This also means we’ll be at Disney for a shorter trip with less nightly resort fees plus we won’t have as many costumes to shop for. Win win!

Of course, there’s a good chance we’ll weaken and upgrade if the medals are extra awesome. But for now, I’m holding firm. I’ve been craving some quality park time lately and I’m still surprised at how we’ve yet to do a rope drop together, in all of our Disney trips!

Anyway, back to runDisney registrations.

My splurge then continued last week with early annual passholder registration for the Princess Half Marathon weekend and my sixth Fairy Tale Challenge, woo-HOO! I did make a surprising, last-minute decision to not register for the Princess 5k, though. Kind of a bummer on one hand, seeing as how the 2013 Royal Family 5k was my very first runDisney race. But it felt GREAT saving that money and we’re planning to do a fun four-park challenge instead, with lots of cupcakes!

I’ve also made some other adjustments to my 2018 non-runDisney race goals. While hanging out with Cooper and Kimberly in Newark, DE a couple weekends ago, (LOVELY town, btw, and the University of Delaware is gorgeous!)

When Kimberly and I got to chatting about our upcoming race schedules, I blurted out an impromptu notion of downgrading from the Baltimore Marathon to the Half Marathon. As soon as the words left my mouth, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do!

Things have been a tad stressful lately. And I must admit that I’ve been burned from running lately, craving other activities such as biking or Beachbody workouts instead. Bob and I also love long fall weekends at the beach and having to run multiple hours on Sunday morning can put a damper on our plans plus there’s the biggest fact of all:

I just don’t want to do all the training!

So yeah. Downgrading will be a good thing. I felt especially rewarded by this decision after discovering there’s a BaltiMORON-a-thon challenge, where you do the 5k at 7:30am and the half marathon at 9:00. I know from experience that getting to Baltimore EARLY on race morning is key. And oh my goodness, look at this medal!

Yep. A cute medal will get me every time and I’ll also get a 5k medal. Downgrade me, baby!

Now what about you?

QOTD: Did you sign up for any 2019 runDisney races so far? If so, please share in the comments below!

  1. I opted to skip Marathon weekend this year…Dopey in 2018 really took a lot out of me and I wasn’t looking forward to going through that training cycle again!

I’m doing the Happily Ever After Challenge with my mom in 2019, but I also opted to skip the 5K this time around…two early morning wake ups is enough for me!

    1. Oh my gosh, yes, training really can take so much out of you, especially during the holidays! We’re doing the exact same thing – waiting until 2020 to take on another Dopey challenge, especially since it’s an anniversary year. (15th for Goofy.)

And awesome, so glad you’re doing the challenge with your mom!! Looks like we’ll both be feeling relaxed early on Friday morning. 😉

Will be doing Star Wars weekend (have been on the fence, but I’ll need a Disney half in case I cave and run Paris). I am making my own Disneyland race weekend in the form of the LA marathon. I’ll stay in Anaheim, wgicj is cheaper than the hotels I saw for Santa Monica, and hit the full Sunday. Before amd after the race will be park time. I really wanted to wait until after Galaxy’s edge, but I’ll wait until crowds die.

    1. Nice, Star Wars is such an amazing weekend! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. So chill and laid back. We’re hoping to do again in 2020. Best of luck with your training! 🙂
