My Running & Racing Limits | Tuesdays on the Run

Never say never. We’ve all heard the phrase many times. And yes, it’s a great concept when it comes to reaching your dreams or accomplishing goals, but there really are times when you can say never.

Like for me, there are several running and racing events I have zero interest in, some by choice, one by circumstance. So seeing as how today’s topic for Tuesdays on the Run that’s hosted by My No Guilt Life, Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and MCM Mama Runs is What’s Your Limit, (to the price of a race,) I’m going to twist it up by chatting about my running and racing limits.

My Running & Racing Limits | Tuesdays on the Run

I will NEVER do a Zombie run.

Call me a wuss, that’s okay. But I don’t watch The Walking Dead, I hate horror movies, and the only haunted house I’ve ever been to resulted in me being wedged between two port-a-potties, absolutely freaking out from a Leatherface lookalike with a chain saw who broke character long enough to say, “Jesus, woman, you know this **** is fake, right?”

So needless to say, Zombie runs are something I’ll never do. Nor have I tried the Zombies, Run app that I downloaded some time ago out of fear that I’d be tearing down the street screaming, “The zombies are coming!!! WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!”

I will NEVER do a Polar Bear Plunge.

Nope, forget it, never gonna happen, I will just open my wallet and flat-out donate to whatever charity its benefiting before ever dunking my winter-hating, cold-loathing body into freezing water. And don’t bother challenging anyone else here at Joyful Miles, because we have all mutually agreed to never do a polar plunge.

We do have a friend, however, who had to dive to the bottom for her medal. Oh my gosh. She is awesome because not even my bling addiction would make me do that.

Nope. Just nope.

I will NEVER do a color run.

I do not like colored cornstarch near my eyes, I do not like colored cornstarch on my thighs, I do not like colored cornstarch in my hair, I do not like colored cornstarch anywhere.

I’m prissy. What can I say?

I will NEVER do a Triathlon.

Actually, this is something that has been tempting me for years … but I’m a horrible swimmer. Seriously, the effort it takes for me to swim ten feet is exhausting. This would also require me to join a gym or swim club with a pool and I’m a more workout-at-home kind of gal. Plus I’d be worried about looking like JD from Scrubs from not having the right equipment or gear … minus the speedo.

So for now, that’s on the Never List. But a duathlon? Yeah. On the Bucket List.

I might never be able to qualify for the Boston Marathon by the time I’m 50.

For years, I’ve had the goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon by the time I’m 50. Well, in April, I’ll be 48. And I’m still injured and practically back at square one. So this goal, unfortunately, should be moved to my back pocket, not because I’m being negative … I just starting to wonder if this goal is realistic.

Maybe by the time I’m 55?

What about you?

QOTD: Do you have a Never List? Or better yet … did you have something on a Never List that you did anyway?

Thanks for reading and as always, have a joyful day!

  1. I don’t have a never list, but if I did the Zombie run would probably be at or near the top. I may do a color or glo run IF it’s something my kids wanted to do but never on my own. I was in the never tri camp until I stared down that sucker and learned to swim (kind of). Trust me there are plenty of people with dodgy gear out there but truly nobody cares about anything other than their own performance.
