My 2017 Fitness and Running Goals | Tuesdays on the Run

While visiting a surgeon last week about my husband’s upcoming hip replacement, Bob mentioned how my foot is injured with a partial plantar plate tear. The doctor’s response?

“Hmm, and they take a long time to heal.”

Hearing this from one of the Baltimore Orioles’ team doctors made the fact sink in deeper. This is why my gorgeous new Garmin 235 is still unopened. And why I’m hesitant to share any 2017 Running Goals as part of this week’s Tuesdays on the Run blog link up hosted by My No-Guilt Life, Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and MCM Mama Runs.

What if I can’t run?

My 2017 Running and Race Goals | Tuesdays on the Run

But no, I can’t believe that. Instead, I’m going to be positive about my recovery. And once I can run again? Good Lord, people, I fully intend on living the #RunAllTheRaces mentality to the fullest.

With that in mind, here’s my list of running goals and races for 2017, some of which will depend on lotteries or scheduling. And, well, how healthy I am.

**EDITED TO ADD: Dang, I messed up. The Tuesdays on the Run topic was supposed to be about what we’ve learned about running in 2016. And I certainly have lots to say about that since I’ve been injured since September. I could have just linked back to this post! Anyway, too late now, let’s roll with it.

My Goals

Run the Year 2017 Challenge

I did accomplish the Run the Year 2015 Challenge by partnering with a friend to run 2,015 miles in 2015. (We split it equally.) But thanks to my injury, I failed in 2016. The Run the Edge community really is fantastic, so I really want to give this another go with a partner. Maybe with a group of three, however. Trying to be realistic!

FINISH A BEACHBODY WORKOUT PROGRAM!!!

Honestly. I’m ashamed to admit how many workout programs I’ve purchased but have yet to complete. Power 90. P90X. P90X3. Insanity. T25. Hard Corps and I am *thisclose* to buying PiYo. Darn those infomercials! They’re crack, I tells ya. Crack. So a huge goal for 2017 is to finish at least one program … two would be better and totally doable, but one would be great!

Be a Better Inspiration

This isn’t a running or fitness goal, but I do want to be a better role model and inspiration next year by growing our blog and YouTube channel. I can’t control the amount of subscribers we have, but I certainly can control our content and I have some fun goals in store!

Races I’d like to run

Disney’s Princess Half Marathon, February 23-26

No clue what kind of shape I’ll be in for this February race weekend, but regardless, I’m going!

On February 7, I’m also going to be registering for the 2018 WDW Dopey Challenge with many prayers that my foot will be healed enough by then!

St. Patty’s Day Boardwalk 5k, March 11th

Since we now co-own a townhouse in Ocean City, I’m ready to try some races there. Especially this one, since it’s on the Boardwalk, one of my favorite places to run. If we’re not at the beach that weekend, though, I’m trying this fun Celtic Canter!

Cherry Blossom 10-Miler, April 2nd

Megan, Jackey, and I have already made it in to lottery with the rest of our group, woo-HOO! I’ve been wanting to do this race for a long, long time and I promise to not whine if the weather is chilly. (Much.)

Ocean City Island to Island 5k/Half Marathon, April 29th

While I would love to do this race, it depends on a.) whether we make it into Broad Street, and b.) when I plan on trying for a 2017 Dopey proof of time. This looks like fun, though, with no hills, so it’s going on my maybe list!

Broad Street 10-Miler, May 7th

The four of us Joyful Mile bloggers seriously want a re-do for this race after freezing our bums off last year in the pouring rain! Lottery opens up in February, so we’ll see what happens.

Frederick Twilight 5k and Half Marathon, May 7th

Now, if we don’t get into Broad Street or decide not to do, then I will most definitely be shooting for this race since it’s one of my favorite halves and a great place to PR! Well, there is that doosie of a hill at the end. But otherwise, fantastic!

runDisney’s Virtual Running Shorts

I skipped last year’s Virtual Shorts … and instantly regretted it once I saw folks with their cute medals! Plus, since I don’t have many runDisney races scheduled for 2017, I need to get some kind of fix and I plan on having lots of fun with this!

Baltimore 10-Miler, June 3rd

Here’s where things get comical: If I do the Frederick Half instead of Broad Street, then I will register for the Baltimore 10-Miler since I already plan on running the Baltimore Marathon and all three races are part of the King Crab Challenge. Whew!

Baltimore Women’s Classic 5k, June 25

This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE non-Disney 5k, so BWC is most definitely on my list! And I will also participate in the eight week training sessions as well.

Bethany Beach First Responders Duathlon, September 25th

Now, I’ve never had much desire to do a duathlon … and ZERO desire to try a triathlon because I can hardly swim, but hey. This looks fun! And it’s only a short drive from Ocean City, so why not?

Baltimore Marathon, October 21st

Of all the non-Disney races on my list, this is the one I’m most excited about. I absolutely love the Baltimore Running Festival and it was such a bummer having to miss 2016’s!

C&O Canal Towpath Half and Full Marathon, November 12th

I’ve had my eye on this race for a long time seeing as how my family used to bike on the C&O Canal all the time and it’s relatively flat. Maybe this will be the year I actually give it a shot since I’m skipping the Wine & Dine Half Marathon. Whether or not I do the half or full is still to be determined…

Y Turkey Trot, November, 23rd

And finally, I thoroughly intend on running a turkey trot on Thanksgiving even though we’re the ones cooking dinner.

~~~
Well, there you go, my list of running goals and races for 2017. If I’m healthy. Which I will be. And my Garmin will NOT be boxed!
  1. OK, new subscriber here 😉 Our daughter recently moved to Hanover,PA…and I’m eager to do a racecation out that way sometime…so I’m gonna be stalking your blog LOL I couldn’t help noticing a lot of races on your calendar in the Baltimore area (I know that’s not too far from where the daughter lives). And, BTW, I’m also terrible at finishing a workout program….but I did two rounds of P90X several years ago 😉
    1. Oops, sorry for the late response, Kimberly! I’m actually not far from Hanover – about 35 minutes. Oh, and I’m at two weeks into Power 90! My record is seven weeks – fingers crossed. 😉 Thanks for stopping by and good luck planning a racecation!
  2. You are going to run again, I just know it! And you inspire me. Your story of getting through Wine & Dine in a boot is legend to me! We are going to have to meet up at one of these Disney events. My tiara loving self will be at Princess (no where else I’d be that weekend) and I’m shooting for Dopey 2018, too! Recover and come back stronger than ever!
    1. Thanks so much and absolutely, I’d love to meet up during PHM! Maybe at the #werunsocial meet up, whenever that is? And let me know if you’d like to do a collaboration on our YouTube channel – it’d be great getting your perspective as a Perfect Princess. Happy New Year!
  3. Ouch to your injury! I hope it heals quickly. You’ve got some great goals for 2017. Last year I ran 2015 kms for 2015. Which ended up being 1252 miles–my highest ever. I won’t do it again because it was just too much for my feet. But it was fun to do! This year I’m pretty close to 1000, which is what I usually do.
    I’m looking forward to following you!
    1. Thanks so much! And wow, congrats, 1,000 miles is awesome!! I look forward to following your running adventures this year as well. Happy New Years!!
  4. I found this site by accident while training for the WDW half watching youtube videos on my treadmill (January race + Michigan winter + fair-weather runner = lots and lots of miles on the treadmill!). I’ll jump in and help you with your goal for more subscribers. My goal is to just keep jogging!! Since the half was cancelled, we signed up for the Wine and Dine 2017. Had a great time at the POP/Art half anyway (need a race report? I have about 10,000 pictures!). The running community is amazing and I am so happy to be becoming part of it- one mile at a time!!
    From a newbie jogger – keep it up!
    1. Hey Jan, so happy you stopped by! It must have stunk having the half cancelled after all your training, but YAY for you signing up for W&D, you’ll love it! And we’d love a race report – that’d be fantastic! You can send it to joyfulmiles1@gmail.com whenever with the pictures as attachments. Thanks and again, thanks for subscribing, we appreciate it! 🙂
