Dopey Challenge Training Update: Running on (too much) Empty | Vlogtober Day 6

After signing up for runDisney’s Dopey Challenge back in January, my intentions were to do weekly updates both here and on our YouTube channel. I had high hopes of sharing news about my recovery from a partial plantar plate tear and then later, chat about getting back into running and starting my Dopey training.

Well, I have recovered, THANK GOD, (you can get the full, blubbery scoop in this video,) I have started running again, THANK GOD, and I’m now in full training mode for Dopey! But what I haven’t done is film my progress for YouTube or chat about it here. Keeping up with work, writing, family, our house and Joyful Miles content has been a bit of a challenge, especially over our chaotic summer.

So I’m glad that Heather Jergensen from Running with Grace and I are doing weekly updates as part of Vlogtober! In my first one this past Friday, I shared how I’ve been slipping back to bad eating habits as a way to cope with the stress. As someone who’s struggled with an eating disorder most of my life, I could see the red flags a mile away. Gotta say. I had absolutely NO intention of ever dancing with that Devil again. I’ve already been up and down that road before … that long, bumpy, miserable road. So I had to take a step back from Joyful Miles and adjust my expectations until the Devil stopped nagging and I got my life back together.

Are things perfect now? Well, no, but life is never perfect, so I’m just moving forward with what I call my “In the Meanwhile” policy. What the full scoop? I chat about this and my near-relapse back down that bumpy road in this video.

For the month of October, I’ll be doing training updates every Friday and next week, I’ll be sharing more about my recovery plus steps I’m taking now to (try to) remain healthy.

Will I continue on with these updates? I know I’d like to. But right now, I’m taking it one month at a time!

I love following your updates, Laura! You are so inspirational and funny. We must go way back, because I feel like we old friends!!
I am suffering from a PPPT myself and haven’t played tennis ( my love) in three months. Your videos remind me “in the meanwhile” to stay positive AND real. xx E

    1. Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Elizabeth, and I’m glad my video was inspiring! And I’m sorry to hear about your own PPPT injury. That sucks!! Praying you’re able to get back to tennis very soon. 🙂
